Getting a New Logo? Make Sure Your Graphic Artist Can Incorporates These 3 Elements in the Design

When you're starting your own business, one of the exciting steps is the development of a logo. Don't cut corners on this important phase by coming up with something yourself on the computer. Instead, hire a local graphic artist who can execute your vision with skill and precision, giving your company an early boost because its logo turns heads. Whether your business sells cupcakes or custom woodworking, or something in between, there are several common traits that your logo should possess. Here are some to consider.

Make it Effective at Any Size

Good logos can take a wide range of styles, but they all share the common trait of being effective at any size. You don't want to create a logo that is too complicated, as it won't translate well when it's scaled down onto a business card or a promotional magnet. For these reason, line drawings and other such subtle images are generally effective. For the cupcake bakery business, for example, it's far better to have a line shaped like that traditional top of a cupcake than trying to include actual cupcake images within the logo.

Include Connections to Your Brand

Many strong logos include subtle connections to their brand, which reinforces to your prospective customer base that your logo is a good one. Nike's swoosh logo, for example, looks fast—and that's one the messages that Nike wants you to think about its shoes and the athletes who wear them. There are many ways to include subtle connections to your brand. If you've launched a line of organic skin products, for example, having some of the logo green will provide an instant connection to health and the environment. Or, adding a leaf shape can also suggest the connection to the environment.

Ensure it's Recognizable

Even though you're just starting your business, you want to have the right logo early on. This way, you won't have to risk changing the logo as your business grows, which can be detrimental to your recognition from customers. Work with the graphic artist to come up with a design, whether it's a shape, a combination of colors, or something else, that makes your logo quickly recognizable. Think of the large companies that have iconic logos, such as Apple, Chevrolet and McDonald's; they each have a logo that the average person will recognize in just a fraction of a second.

About Me

Bringing Out Your Creativity

When was the last time you were silly? Although you might feel like you let your hair down all the time, the fact of the matter is that most adults forget how to really relax and have fun. Fortunately, you can get to know your inner kid again by participating in the visual arts. A few months ago, I took an improvisation class from my local college, and it was absolutely incredible. In addition to meeting other people and having a few good laughs, I found the process incredibly relaxing. I learned how to enjoy the awkwardness of new situations, which was invigorating. Check out my site to learn more about how to bring out your inner creativity.
